Termites in Winter, Are they active?

Termites can be very problematic for many of us, and the challenge here is that they are quite active throughout the year. But the question is, are termites active during the winter as well? Do termites survive winter?

You won’t see active termites during the winter since they are burrowing deep under the surface to protect themselves. With that in mind, they are trying to stay alive during this season. Termites can be cold blooded, so in extreme situation like winter time, they will try their best to stay active as much as possible, but they do so underground.

However, the termite tubes they create can sometimes have some moisture and that’s where they will do their best to stay alive as much as possible. That’s definitely an important thing to keep in mind in a situation like this.

Will termites die in the winter?

They won’t, instead they reduce their activities. They won’t look for new food sources either, unless they are disturbed in some manner. They will however use their energy to stay warm, and they will stay within various galleries to protect themselves. So yes, winter time is when you won’t see active. They have limited food and resources, so their focus is to try and stay alive. That means it’s the right time to repair any termite damage, and even call the exterminator to find them. It’s easier to get rid of them when they are less active, so that’s certainly a thing to take into consideration as much as you can here.

Should you be worried that termites will attack during the winter?
